intertwined beneath our feet
left no mark
on this bleak world.
Echoed for help to the
cars with their blaring horns
but
nobody
gave a flying fuck.
On long nights we would pretend
to beat each other up
at the intersection of
apathy and entertainment.
The red lights turned green as people
shocked with our blatant disregard for the rules
hid their popcorn tubs.
Sam turned to me and said
I have lost my faith in all of humanity.
We sat tying our shoes
in the middle of the road
waiting to be run over
on a balmy summer night
and not even the mosquitoes
seemed to care.
